Halotherapy for Respiratory Health & Hygiene - Could this help you?

Halotherapy, or breathing in of salt micro-particles, takes the therapeutic properties of salt into the respiratory system. Dry salt therapy is like a natural detoxification for your airways and skin.

When micro-particles of salt are inhaled it helps to reduce inflammation, widen the airways, accelerate mucus release, eliminate toxins and strengthen the immune system. There are many studies that show people with asthma and chronic upper respiratory conditions can achieve significant benefits from salt therapy. It has also been recommended for patients suffering from pulmonary heart disease and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, such as chronic bronchitis). People with cystic fibrosis can benefit from salt therapy as well as being helpful for treating airborne allergies and sinusitis.

How dry salt improves the respiratory system?

Scientific research has found that inhaled dry salt particles have anti-bacterial, mucokinetic, hydrophilic, and anti-inflammatory properties, which may help to reduce inflammation in the entire respiratory tract and widen the airway passages. Dry salt particles can aid the acceleration and transportation of mucus, the elimination of residual tar and foreign allergens. A clean respiratory system naturally results in higher oxygen intake, increased energy, and an improved immune system.

Dry salt is also very absorbent and functions like a sponge, attracting foreign substances along its path through the respir

atory tract. One could also compare the dry salt to a toothbrush that cleans through the respiratory system removing the build-up of foreign elements that cause various respiratory ailments and conditions.

Halotherapy has been known to improve many respiratory conditions

When including Halotherapy as part of a wellness routine, many people suffering from respiratory conditions have found relief and significant improvement in their symptoms.

These include:

  • Asthma

  • Allergies

  • Common cold

  • Bronchitis

  • COPD

  • Cystic fibrosis

  • Sinusitis

  • Smokers cough

More recently many Halotherapy rooms (including Koru Wellness) have been seeing clients attending with Long Covid respiratory issues and have been getting some very positive feedback. Comments have been made including 'I feel like I can breathe again', 'my chest feels lighter and less tight' and 'it is helping to loosen and remove mucous from what feels like very deep down'.

If Halotherapy can help with Long Covid that is fantastic, but at the very least a session of Halotherapy is a great way to relax and practice some deep breathing, ultimately helping you to feel better naturally. So why not give it a try?

Halotherapy is not intended as a replacement for pharmaceuticals, but rather a complimentary therapy to use alongside and to enhance the natural healing process. Regular and continued use of Halotherapy may however lead to a reduction in dependency of medication.
