About Koru Halotherapy

Why Halotherapy (dry salt therapy)?

With over 20 years in the construction industry and the past 10 focused on the wellness & wellbeing sector, I became interested in Halotherapy after trying it for myself and feeling the benefits.

Since childhood I have suffered from Eczema and Asthma, leaving me with many memories of feeling embarrassed due to the unsightly rashes or having to stop exercising as I couldn't breathe.  Over the years I have tried all sorts of creams, solutions, steriods and inhalers, always wondering what affect they would really have on my body long term.  More recently in adulthood I have suffered from many chest infections that always took months to go away.

Seeing and feeling the results I have achieved from Halotherapy continues to amaze me, especially with it being 100% natural and drug free.  Since using Halotherapy my eczema is under control and almost non-existent, I don't consider myself asthmatic anymore and the past 3 years I have not suffered a single chest infection.

Having had such positive results myself, I wanted others to also benefit from Halotherapy. Therefore, I decided to set up a room right here in Bookham, Surrey.

In September 2021 I was asked to take on the role of Executive Director of the World Halotherapy Association, which is dedicated to creating a global standard of excellence in the Halotherapy industry as well as to Support, Educate and Inspire those interested in providing Halotherapy.  I am also the UK representative for the Global Wellness Institutes Initiative - Exploring Salt & Halotherapy and Founder of the UK Halotherapy Network.

I believe in Halotherapy and helping others to breathe better and feel better naturally.

I look forward to welcoming you to my Halotherapy room soon.

FAQ

What should I expect in the salt room?

Each session lasts for approximately 30 minutes.
You will stay fully clothed but will sit back in a reclining chair to encourage you to relax and breathe deeply.
Those suffering from skin conditions are encouraged to expose the affected skin. Different chairs are available for this, to minimise the contact and allow the skin to be exposed.

What kind of salt is used?

The salt used is 99.9% pure sodium chloride (Pharmaceutical grade salt). It contains no fillers or caking agents. It’s the same salt that hospitals use and is the same type of salt all the research has been conducted on. We do not use Himalayan or sea salt as it is not stripped of all the impurities. There could be minerals, dirt, clay or some type of debris that could be harmful to the lungs. Pink Himalayan Rock salt is very healthy for the digestive system, but not for the respiratory system.

When should it be avoided?

Halotherapy is a natural treatment however any clients who have any serious health conditions or women who are pregnant should always seek proper medical advice before any type of treatment.

Are there any side effects?

There are typically no side effects other than the taste of salt and potentially thirst or a scratchy throat. However, if someone is on any medications or suffers from any serious medical issue please seek medical advice before any therapy.

How many sessions will I need?

Halotherapy offers the best results when practiced regularly. The benefits are cumulative so consistency and frequency are the key. People with chronic issues will benefit greatly if visiting salt rooms at least 3-4 times a week initially. Those who are looking to incorporate Salt Therapy into their regular wellness routine would benefit from a weekly session. Halotherapy has been used on a daily basis without any side effects. But as in all health services, please use your own discretion.

If too much salt is bad for your diet, is Halotherapy bad for you?

Halotherapy is associated with the respiratory tract. When inhaled, the amount of salt entering your respiratory system is very low. This is different from ingesting salt, which is associated with the digestive tract. Dry Salt Therapy does not have a negative effect on diet, hypertension or high blood pressure. Dry Salt Therapy reduces inflammation, expands airways, and breaks down bacteria.

What do I wear?

You will stay fully clothed.  The room is kept at a warm comfortable temperature, so for those treating skin conditions, you can expose the affected areas.

Where is Koru Wellness?

The salt room is located in a garden room, with external access on a lovely quiet road in Bookham.  You will receive the full address details after you have booked.
